Cameras and Compositions

Join me at a variety of locations, where I will teach you how to use your camera outside of your comfort zone, whether it is finally coming off auto mode or just trying to understand the relationship between all your settings and the images they produce. As well as understanding your camera a little better, I will explain techniques to make an image work by using different compositions. During the session, we will try and shoot a variety of subjects to gain a broader selection of images you can take home and help with your development of skills.

Post-Processing

With everyone having their own style and personal preference to post-processing, we all do things differently to develop an image the way we see it. During a 1-to-1 session, we will discuss what you are wanting to create and use that as our aim. Using skills and techniques that I have learned within Photoshop and Lightroom, I will help and explain every step in the process.

Otter photography Workshop

The Isle of Mull

A special place for wildlife.

Its rugged coastline, open glens, and lochs, that sit within its awe-inspiring mountains, provide the ideal habitats for a huge variety of species. Some of its most well-known residents are the impressive White-Tailed Sea Eagles, the magnificent Golden Eagle, and of course the island's magical Otters.

While we hope to witness and photograph as many of these species as we can, it is the Otters that we will focus on during this tour. The Isle of Mull has a large and healthy population of Otters, but most visitors are only fortunate enough to catch the faintest glimpse of these amazing animals.

On our trip, we will bring you closer to these animals teaching you the techniques that we have learned through our time in pursuit of the otters. We will teach you which habitats the otters prefer, and how to spot them and we will help you discover and understand the field signs and tracks of these elusive animals.

Undoubtedly the most important elements in successfully photographing otters are to have both sound field-craft techniques and to maintain the otter’s welfare and natural habits. We will show you and teach you our proven techniques of field-craft in getting you closer to these beautiful animals in their own world, without them knowing you are even there, allowing you to witness and photograph nature at its purest. The welfare of these animals is massively important, and in order to observe them as naturally as possible, it is important to know when to back away and give them the space they need.

Alongside teaching you how to photograph the otters responsibly within their natural environment, we will discuss ideal camera techniques, compositions, and use of the environment to really create images that you will be proud of. Also, once we have completed the day's shooting, in the evenings, we will spend time discussing and reviewing the day's events, answering any questions, and also providing post-processing tips and techniques to really get your creative juices flowing.
